Here lies a collection of anecdotes from an average over the road long haul truck driver. I say here "lies" some stories because truckers are like hunters and fishermen. They like to belly up to the stained and scarred counters of truckstops all over the country with a cup of hot "Joe" and share in their adventures with others, embellishing and exaggerating to their hearts content. It is an unspoken understanding that the stories they hear although based in fact will be stretched and spiced up to make the story more entertaining. Hopefully you will begin to smell the distinctive odor of diesel smoke and hear the deep rumblings of powerful tractor-trailer rigs as they shift through decades of gears. Weave a mist around yourself of the incessant chatter of the CB radio, the sound of a "Jake brake" barking out through the thick night air. The sound of a semi's air horn is the call of the wild, nomadic life of a trucker, its lonely echo drifting down long after its passing. Without trucks, America stops. The endless miles and hours a trucker endures fuels the American economy with essential goods brought and stocked on all our store shelves. A trucker is the lifeblood of this great land. It is a romantic profession that is more than just a source of income for their families. It is a lifestyle that gets into the blood. Trucker's eyes are always on the horizon, looking towards the next bend in the road. The eternal blacktop stretches before them, drawing them ever onwards. So sit back and enjoy Life in the Hammer Lane.
